Beaches

Our beaches are, quite simply, some of the best in the world. They are rimmed with wide stretches of clean, white sand, with a choice of surf or calm bays sparkling with warm water, and most are patrolled by surf lifesavers. Sunshine Coast beaches are rarely crowded with space for everyone to stretch out on the sand, play beach sports, swim, body surf, or jump on a board and ride a wave all the way in to shore. Our beaches are equipped with excellent recreational facilities like beachfront parklands, children’s playgrounds, undercover barbecue and picnic areas, toilets and showers and plenty of parking just a few steps from the sand. All set to enjoy the ultimate, hassle-free beach getaway.

Some of the best beaches for children include Kings Beach, Bulcock Beach, Golden Beach, Cotton Tree, Mooloolaba Beach and Mooloolaba Spit, which offer excellent beachside playgrounds. Noosa Main Beach is one of the few north-facing beaches on Australia’s east coast, providing safe sheltered waters for young families and novice surfers. Surfers will find the best surf breaks at Point Cartwright, Alexandra Headland, Sunshine Beach, Moffat Beach and between Coolum and Peregian — the local surfers are friendly and will happily share the waves. If you’re travelling with dogs, you (and your canine friends) will love our off-leash beaches, including Currimundi Beach, Buddina Beach, Wurtulla Beach, Sunshine Beach, Marcus Beach and Mudjimba Beach. Some less frequented beaches are at  Mudjimba, Marcoola, Warana, and Buddina. Naturalists head for the quiet beaches hidden throughout Noosa National Park, with Alexandria Bay a popular nudist or ‘clothes optional’ beach, where you can work on an all-over tan. For an action-packed 4WD adventure along some of Australia’s most famous sandy stretches, explore the coloured sands of Rainbow Beach or catch the vehicular ferry over to Fraser Island.
